It is tough for children to survive in today’s world and what if your parents dumped you because they thought you were too ugly? Imaging how tough life would be for that kid!? Jono Lancaster ha some minor physical disabilities and his parentts dumped him saying he was too ugly! Let’s see how tough life was for him.
Jono Lancaster was born with Treacher Collins Syndrome, which causes being born without certain bones in the face, as well as impaired hearing. Imaging such a innocent looking kid being dumped by his own parents!
Jono is a special kid with an amazing positive attitude who doesn’t let things get him down. Even with his disabilities he always saw himself as lucky, as most people with this disease need up to 70 surgeries to even make their lives livable.
Soon after the Jono was was born his parents realized that he was too ugly and due to his condition and they could not handle the situation and abandoned him. But soon an angel Jean Lancester came to his rescue and adopted him.
Jono knew he was different and he immediately knew that he would have a hard time when he got to school. “They’d pull their eyes down, or run away, yelling that they’d catch my disease. I’d ask Jean why they did that, and she’d cry. Then I felt guilty that I’d made my mom cry.”
Jono hated his appearance for a long time and he allowed it to affect his state of mind, causing him to become a rebel.
A simple comment from skinhead that completely change Jono’s mind. The person joked that it was better that he was deaf because he would not hear his wife complain. In this small comment Jono realized the power of laughter and being positive.
Jono is an inspirational speaker spreading the word about Treacher collins. “My parents still want nothing to do with me,” he stated, “What’s changed is my attitude, and that’s so powerful. I wouldn’t change any of it. My attitude was more disabling than anything. With the right attitude, you can achieve anything.”
