Grandfather Knits Dolls With Vitiligo For Children With Same Condition!
Vitiligo is a rare skin condition that results in the skin losing pigment and eventually losing self-esteem. Well, a grandfather makes dolls to make children affected with Vitiligo feel better. Just look over his dolls, it makes you salute this guy!
Let’s meet the grandfather
Meet 64-years old Grandfather João Stanganelli who’s been struggling with Vitiligo since his 30s. Well, he got semi-retired from gastronomy and began crocheting with her wife. At the start, it was difficult for him to keep a hold of it!
So, how did the idea of knitting vitiligo dolls struck his mind?
João’s began to start his first project with her granddaughter for her school. He thought of creating something different and came up with vitiligo doll as she can always remember him. And thus, an idea was born to make children with the same condition to feel better.
His thoughts on Vitiligo
“My view of vitiligo seems to me to be very different from the general, I think it is necessary first that you have vitiligo, after this acceptance you choose what you want to do,” João continued. “I still quote Benjamin Disraeli: ‘Life is too short to be small.’”

Tati Santos, de Oliveria, the author of “A Girl Made of Clouds” wrote the book after her daughter ogt diagnosed with Vitiligo. The story tells about the little girl who sees her patches as clouds. João himself is a big fan of the book.
