Luke Sullivan And Craig Burns Take Mid Night Vows

Same-Sex Couples Tied The Knot On The First Official Day

Same-sex couples in Australia have tied the knot on the first official day of ceremonies following the passage of a historic law. Australian athletes Luke Sullivan, 23, and Craig Burns, 29, exchanged vows and a kiss just after midnight in a small ceremony in New South Wales.

A Ceremony At The British Consulate

The couple had planned a ceremony at the British consulate but applied to have the Australian marriage ceremony instead once the law changed as family members were travelling from the UK. Mr Burns’s sister, Sarah Ross said: “A few months ago we didn’t know if he’d be able to get legally married in Australia, so the fact that today he gets to have a husband is pretty incredible. Congratulations to the new couple for their new beginning.
