President Trump Tests Positive For COVID-19 Virus Ahead of Presidential Election

U.S. President Donald Trump and the first lady Melanie Trump has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. Last night, Trump tweeted that “We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get through this TOGETHER!”

Just before the U.S. President’s COVID-19 positive test broke out, the White House Advisor and his trusted aide Hope Hicks had been tested positive for the virus. He had traveled with Trump on Air Force One this week. Hicks had also accompanied him for the first presidential debate with Joe Biden. “Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for COVID 19,” President Trump tweeted on Thursday. “Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!”

After the reports came in, White House spokesperson Judd Deere said that “The president takes the health and safety of himself and everyone who works in support of him and the American people very seriously.” Hicks is the fourth White House personnel who has been infected with the virus. She added that all the guidelines are being followed to limit the exposure of the virus.

Donald Trump isn’t the first one leader who is inflicted with coronavirus. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson recovered from the COVID-19 who first isolated himself and then was shifted to hospital owing to the struggle to breathe. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau went into quarantine after his wife was tested positive for the virus. Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro announced in July that he was diagnosed with the virus. Like Trump, Bolsonaro also neglected the risk of the virus and blamed the media for making a big deal out of it.

As of now, over 200,000 people have died of COVID-19 in the U.S. which accounts for one-fifth of the total death worldwide. The total number of coronavirus cases in the country has surpassed 7 Million which is horrifying if compared with the U.S. population of over 330 Million. In the past, Trump had issued a statement that this virus will “magically disappear” while also conveyed it as a hoax and accused the World Health Organization (WHO) of mismanaging and spread of the virus.

The head of WHO Tedros Ghebreyesus wished Trump and his wife for “a full and speedy recovery.” Meanwhile, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Wishing my friend @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a quick recovery and good health.” President Trump is technically obese and in his 70s which can be put him at high risk. However, he was in good health and didn’t encounter major health issues in recent years.

The COVID-19 news might impact his campaigns ahead of the presidential election 2020. Trump had a full day of events scheduled for Friday which included a private fund-raiser at the Trump International Hotel in Washington and a campaign rally in Florida. He had organized various allies amidst the pandemic despite the warnings from health professionals to hold events with a large crowd. During his presidential debate, he downplayed Joe Biden for wearing the mask and said “I wear masks when needed. When needed, I wear masks.”
