Over the years, they’ve grown and changed, and their style has evolved from that of heartbroken young boys to strong men who seem to respect their duties as leaders. If you’re one of those watchful fans of the royal family and its young princes, you’re going to love these photos: We see the progression of their lives over the years, and even get a glimpse into what they might look like in the future.
This is what you expect to see when you think of the princes of England, isn’t it?
Here, princes Will and Harry are looking dashing in their military attire — standing next to a gorgeous Kate Middleton during the Trooping the Colour ceremonies in 2014.
But of course, they’re not always in their formal gear
They can definitely dress like royals, but most of the time they simply wear well-cut and tailored men’s attire like other men their age.
Still, their style evolution hasn’t happened overnight.
Remember when these guys look like this? We’re pretty sure that Harry doesn’t wear bloomers anymore — at least in public.
William has always had a thing for his military garb
Take, for instance, this 1986 photo of 4-year-old William in his tiny Royal Air Force uniform. He may not have been old enough to fly the planes, but he certainly did look the part.
And then there’s a dashing young Harry
At a 1991 Easter mass, Harry was captured looking positively posh in a blazer and slacks.
Their looks may not have always been quite as tailored as they are now, but the two princes have always been presented to the world in their best attire
This photo was taken on September 6, 1995 when Princes Harry and William, alongside mom Diana and dad, Prince Charles.
Part of the reason for their great style may have been Princess Diana
After all, she was a fashion icon herself. This image was taken whe the family attended the commemorations of VJ Day in London.
Sadly, this is the look that we most remember from the boys’ youths
Taken on that sad day in 1997 when they had to attend their own mother’s funeral at Westminster Abbey.
We didn’t see a whole lot of the boys in the years after Diana’s death
We got glimpses of them here and there, such as this photo, taken in 2004. The boys look stoic because they were attending the unveiling of a fountain built in memory of their mother in Hyde Park.
Then, we saw them again when Charles got remarried
Naturally, the boys were in morning and things were relatively hush-hush around the palace. Then, Charles remarried in 2005 and they took a family portrait. You can see how William and Harry have grown and evolved in their style.
As time has gone by, we’ve seen the princes more and more
Here, Princes William and Harry appeared on stage during the Concert for Diana at Wembley stadium, on what would have been their mother’s 46th birthday. These occasions must be incredibly difficult for them to attend, but they always do.
Then, of course, there was the joyous occasion of Prince William’s marriage in 2011
William wed Kate Middleton in 2011, and the couple were crowned the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
These days, they present a united front as a family
Here, William, Harry, Kate, Charles and Camilla attend the British royal family attend the traditional Christmas Day church service, at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, England in 2015.
For better or worse, these princes have always been in the public eye — and it’s not all serious business, either
Here, princes William and Harry duel with lightsabers on visit to Star Wars studios — one of the many perks of being a royal.
William has a bit more responsibility than Harry, but the younger Prince still manages to do his part to represent the royal family
Here, Harry prepares to lay a wreath at the memorial near Wellington Arch during a morning service at Hyde Park Corner in 2016.
And like his late mother, Harry currently spends time advocating for the sick, poor, and otherwise disenfranchised
This photo was taken when he visited Kanti Children’s Hospital where he spent time with young people being treated with burns.
And despite the fact that they are and always have been in the public eye, some couldn’t help but speculate what they might look like 20 years from now
This projection of Prince William in two decades time shows how much he hasn’t aged — even though his hair will likely go the same way as his father’s
However, the projection of Harry in 20 years time is a little more unforgiving
He’s still got boyish looks now, but that likely won’t last forever. Still, as he ages, he will most likely look more and more like his father.
But for now, they’re busy relishing their youths, their young families, and life as royals
It must be something else to always be under the Queen’s watchful eyes, don’t you think?
And at the end of the day (and no matter what they look like), one thing is certain
These two brothers know how to stick together — and to have some fun when the situation presents itself.
