Nouri was born in a Syrian refugee camp. In 1991 after the Gulf war and during the Kurdish uprising in Northern Iraq their house was destroyed by a bomb and so her mother fled with her and her eldest sister at the time.

Many people kicked the bucket of hypothermia or starvation since it was a long road to Iran. It was snowing in the mountains at the time, so they needed to stroll through the mountains. They did the entire journey by foot.
